You Always Have Time for Church

I have been home for four or five weeks now from college and I have only dragged myself to church twice in that time. Oh, I have all my excuses, like that my parents go to church on Saturday nights when I’m busy and that I still watch the service online, so it’s almost like I was there.

It’s not guys. It’s really not. There is something about actually attending a church weekly or more that just helps refresh the soul and keeps one in line with God. Sound cooky? Maybe, but I can feel the difference.

Lots of the time, especially for young adults, we get busy. We have school or work (often that we’ve put off until the last minute) and then we decide, “God will understand. I’ll just skip church today so I can get this done. I’ll just be distracted during the service anyways.”

Anytime I’ve done that I usually still put the project off and am stressed for the rest of the day. Then there’s the times that I’ve put aside whatever I am busy with and still gone to church. I’d say 99 percent of the time, I return from church feeling calm, peaceful and knowing that the work is in God’s hands and I’ll get it done in time.

Now I get it. You can worship God at home, sing praises in the car, read your Bible during breaks between classes; you don’t need church to spend time with God. But church does have a way of improving our relationship with the Lord.

 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. – Hebrews 10:24-25

Church once a week reminds us that we are not alone in our spiritual battles. That whatever challenges we may be facing that we are surrounded by others in our community who hold fast to the same faith we do, the same morals, the same love.

We have a pastor there who can remind us of Jesus’ love and remind us to continue to be strong as we leave the doors of the comforting church and face a world that not only doesn’t accept Jesus’ love but mocks it.

Go to church guys, even if you think you don’t have time. It’ll be worth it.
